Testicular surgery

Orchidectomy

The malignant tumor of the testis is the most common cancer in young men between 20 and 35 years of age. Fortunately, the cure rate is almost 100% with appropriate treatment. For this, the testes and spermatic cord must be completely removed. This is similar to an appendectomy in which a small incision is made in the groin.

In a later operation, the removed testes may be replaced by a silicone implant.

The surgery takes about 45 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia. The average hospital stay lasts about 4 days, and the seams that are close the wound are removed 10 days after the operation.

Admission: the day before surgery

Hydrocele

The hydrocele is a harmless collection of fluid in the scrotum. Nevertheless, many patients feel
disturbed by this fluid storage and want to fix the problem.
Through a small incision on the scrotum, the fluid of the affected side is first drained and then tissue around the testis is gathered to prevent a recurrence.

The surgery takes about 45 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia. The average hospital stay lasts for about 2 days, and the sutures that close the wound dissolve after healing.

Admission: the day of surgery

Varicocele

A varicocele is a widening of the veins along the cord that holds up a the testicles (spermatic cord). It is caused by weak veins, often on the left side, and can be common in patients who do weight training. This can lead to withdrawing complaints and often negatively affects the sperm quality. Therefore, this condition warrants surgery.

The procedure involves an approximately 3cm long incision made in the lateral abdominal region on the affected side. The vein, which is the cause of the outflow obstruction, is identified and sutured so that the upstream veins collapse.
On request, this operation can also be performed in the keyhole technique (laparoscopy).

The surgery takes about an hour and is performed under general anesthesia. The average hospital stay lasts for about 2 days, and the seams that close the wound are removed 10 days after surgery.

Testicular biopsy

In special cases of unfulfilled desire for children it will be necessary to take a testicular biopsy. During women are pulsed with hormon therapy, through a small incision on the scrotum testicular tissue will be removed to isolate viable sperms. This operation takes about one hour and will be performed in general anesthesia. Usually patients can leave the hospital on the same day. The sutures have not to be removed.
